BD Emerald™ Syringes: Helping patients and the planet, one injection at a time!

Disposable syringes are widely used and vital for patient care. However, the single-use plastics (SUP) that disposable syringes are made of account for 40% of the total plastics produced.1 Such plastics are responsible for widespread environmental pollution and cause a massive carbon footprint.1 They also mostly end up in landfills, contributing to adverse environmental and health effects.1

BD is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our portfolio and addressing the sustainability needs of our customers.2 BD Emerald™ Syringes are manufactured at our plant in Fraga, Spain, one of 46 BD sites with ISO 14001 certified environmental management systems. Our plant at Fraga runs on 100% renewable energy.3

BD Emerald™ Syringes are built with many safety features.3 These include a textured thumb press to reduce slippage during administration and a clear barrel that allows for easy visualisation of fluid.3 Also included are scale markings that allow for accurate dosing and design features that minimise accidental plunger rod pullout.3

BD Emerald™ Syringes are available in three different sizes (2 mL, 5 mL and 10 mL) to enable optimal dosing.4

BD Emerald™ Syringes are also thoroughly tested to ensure that every relevant component meets ISO 10993 series tests and requirements for biocompatibility.4
