As the Lead of the Breast Imaging Section and Radiological Coordinator at Parc de Salut Mar’s breast cancer screening program, Dr. Alcantara offers expertise in diagnostic and image-guided breast interventions.

Dr. Rodrigo Alcantara is a Radiology specialist with extensive qualifications, including a European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR), a European Diploma in Breast Imaging (EDBI), and a master’s degree in Breast Pathology and Senology from the University of Barcelona.

He currently serves as the head of the breast imaging section and radiological coordinator of the breast cancer screening program at Parc de Salut Mar, Hospital del Mar. Dr. Alcantara’s expertise includes diagnostic and image-guided breast interventions, and his research interests focus on AI implementation in radiology for improved diagnostic accuracy and efficiency.

She is active in research and audit and is recognised as a national and international speaker. She developed the UK breast screening guidelines on how to manage high risk lesions.

She is also involved in a number of trials looking to minimise over treatment and also support risk adapted screening.

She is actively involved in studies involving artificial intelligence. She sits on a large number of committees and is audit lead for the British Society of Radiology.

She has been a consultant in Breast Radiology since 1994. Her clinical and managerial experience in a number of positions began in 1992, and her expertise in breast interventional techniques dates back to 1994.

Having performed over 3000 procedures, both for diagnostic and therapeutic indications, Dr. Torres’ acknowledged experience in vacuum assisted biopsy (VAB) was initiated in 1999.

She has taken part as speaker at courses and conferences (over 200 lectures given). She has also participated in national and international specific theoretical and practical training courses, and has authored articles and book chapters.

She has contributed to the education of others and has supported the introduction and improvement of ultrasound guided VABB for diagnostic and therapeutic indications in Spain, Europe and Latinamerica.

Until 2018 she has been the coordinator of the Unidad de Radiología de la Mujer (Female Radiology Unit) at the Hospital Universitario Puerta del Sur, Group HM (Móstoles, Madrid).

Currently she works as consultant Breast Radiologist at Breast Pathology Center (San Pedro Hospital, Logroño-Spain) and at Zentro Avanced Diagnosis (Zaragoza-Spain).
