Developing vascular access teams in Europe\u2014are we there yet?<\/span><\/b><sup><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">4<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/sup><\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In order to advance patient safety and create sustainable practices in vascular access, the implementation of vascular access teams (VATs) can be a key enabler<\/span><sup><span data-contrast=\"auto\">5<\/span><\/sup><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2014but what is the current status of implementation across Europe?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dr Fulvio Pinelli, MD, Consultant Cardiac Anaesthesiologist, Intensivist, and Director of the Vascular Access Centre at Careggi University Hospital in Florence, Italy, described the structure of his institution\u2019s vascular access approach.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Despite innovations in his own hospital, Dr Pinelli said, \u201cThe current landscape of vascular access management as a discipline across Europe is relatively unknown.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to a 2020 survey across nearly 1,500 healthcare professionals in six European countries, the availability of VATs is still inconsistent. It\u2019s only a matter of time.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\"> \u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He went on to explain how the implementation of vascular access care bundles in his hospital has helped reduce central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), and how they can impact healthcare budget.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In fact, Prof Devrim\u2019s bundle approach includes more than just devices.
