Product spotlight—BD® TIVA administration set

Total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) is a technique in which the maintenance of general anaesthesia is achieved through intravenous infusion.1 Despite TIVA being well-established in clinical practice, volatile (inhaled or gas) anaesthesia is used more frequently.2 However, TIVA has many clinical advantages over other general anaesthesia techniques, such as an improved recovery profile after the operation and reduced post-operative nausea and vomiting.2

On top of improving clinical outcomes, technique selection should take into account the environmental impacts of the entire life cycle of anaesthetic drugs. Compared to inhaled anaesthesia, TIVA causes less environmental damage, emitting levels of greenhouse gases four times lower.3

BD® TIVA administration sets are part of the BD® IV portfolio offering intuitive designs to ensure optimal care. The range of devices includes both detachable and non-detachable TIVA sets. By using standardised ready-to-use designs, the portfolio offers an additional option for TIVA care while improving clinical outcomes.
